Hanohano O Kona (honoring Kona) Lecture, June 29, 2016, 5:30 Pm-7:00 Pm

Kona Historical Society presents the Hanohano O Kona lecture series. Allen Wall, Kona Historical Society Board President, kamaaina rancher, musician, Daniel Akaka, Mauna Lani Cultural Affairs Director, kahu, musician, and Alan Akaka, slack key artist, will discuss “Na Mele Paniolo O Kona,” songs pertaining to the unique style of ranching in Hawaii, place names of Hawaiian sites important to the cowboys who knew them, their relationship to Kona’s history, and efforts to preserve them. The 2016 community cultural and historical lecture series, spotlighting local and state speakers, is held at the West Hawaii Civic Center the last Wednesday of each month from 5:30 pm-7:00 pm. Presented by Kona Historical Society, in cooperation with Hawai’i County, this free, public series is a gift from the Society to the community.
